On Monday, April 5th Superintendent Dr. Jake Long released a statement about several positions that were filled at the evening’s board meeting. This included the hiring of a new Principal, Mary Beth Russell, and the creation of a new counseling position. According to his statement:

“Tonight our Board of Education met in its quarterly work session to discuss facilities projects, academic goals, and the potential uses of ESSER III funds. The Board also handled several personnel items, including hiring …

Mary Beth Russell as the high school principal. Mrs. Russell is a genuine, dedicated educator with a world of experience to bring to the job. As a current assistant principal at MHHS, she has the trust and confidence of the staff and is an advocate for kids and families. I look forward to seeing the strides made at the high school under Mrs. Russell’s leadership.

Philip Goodwin, current dean of students at MHHS, will fill Mrs. Russell’s position as assistant principal. In my last update, I discussed how the dean of students role would serve as a pipeline for leaders in training to progress, and Mr. Goodwin’s transition to assistant principal is an example of how the Board sees the Dean of Students position functioning.

Heather Hatman as the Social-Emotional Learning Support Specialist. Mrs. Hatman has had a long career as a counselor in our district, and I believe she will be a great resource for our students and our staff moving forward.

Cara Coleman as a high school counselor, replacing Mrs. Hatman. Mrs. Coleman has done an excellent job as a counselor at Mountain Home Junior High, and I look forward to seeing how the relationships she has formed with junior high students the last few years will grow now that she is moving to high school. I know the students who had her in junior high will enjoy seeing a familiar face and trusted confidant on the high school campus.”
